Students Learn Computer Sense
Webmaster John Uhlig said the deletions were a warning because students know they're not supposed to have those files on their school accounts. He discovered the problem when a student couldn't save school files because of a large video game file in his account.
"We then ran a search and found there were a number of kids with games, music files," said Uhlig. "Next thing you know, we get these letters saying kids are downloading them."
So the school sent a written warning to all students.
"It said if they find you downloading anything else, you'll be kicked off for the rest of the quarter," said 9th grader Ethan Huss.
"I'm not going to do it because now I know they can find it and get me in trouble for it," added Boyett.
Students said someone downloaded the games into their accounts, but the webmaster said that's nearly impossible without access to 60 individual user names and passwords.
