Study to consider Missouri River port in central Missouri
COLUMBIA — Central Missouri officials are funding a study to determine the need, feasibility and a possible location for a multi-modal port on the Missouri River.
The $170,000 study is being funded by Callaway and Cole counties, Jefferson City and the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce.
Cambridge Systematics and Hanson Professional Services Inc. will conduct the study.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports the study will determine potential traffic at a new Jefferson City port.
Multimodal transportation involves a carrier takes goods to a destination using two or more modes of transportation.
Callaway County Presiding Commissioner Gary Jungermann says the study will be done in the fall. After that, the groups will determine if a port is worth pursuing.
