Sturgeon man arrested in drug investigation, officer injured
COLUMBIA - Columbia Police arrested a man early Friday in connection to an ongoing drug investigation.
Officers said they were in the area of Rock Quarry Road and Southland Drive at around 2 a.m. when they made contact with Randy Joe McGrath, 20, of Sturgeon. He agreed to a search, during which officers said they found a bag with a "white flaky substance," which later tested positive for methanphetamine, police said.
They then told McGrath he was going to be detained. At that point, officers said, McGrath tried to run away, but was caught after a short foot pursuit.
While taking McGrath into custody, police said, the arresting officer got several cuts on their arm, leg, and hand.
Officers learned McGrath had an active parole absconder warrant. He had been charged with domestic assault in 2016.
