Suspect in Quail Drive homicide charged, booked into jail
COLUMBIA - Police arrested the main suspect in a deadly May shooting on Quail Drive on Monday, more than two weeks after he was charged with murder in the case.
Bobby Jermaine Dawson is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, and is in jail on no bond. The victim in the case, Rod Jones, died from a gunshot wound.
According to court documents, Jones was standing outside early in the morning on May 25, talking to other people, when an SUV pulled up and two men got out. Surveillance video showed one of the men walking up to Jones and hitting him with a gun. Jones ran off, and the man gave chase, ending up behind a building where the camera couldn't see them. Documents said video then showed the man returning without Jones.
Police identified the man as Dawson, and matched the vehicle at the scene to one Dawson owns.
Prosecutors have also charged Robert Junior Johnson in the case. He faces charges of being an accessory to murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.
