COLUMBIA (AP) - A man pleaded not guilty Monday to involuntary manslaughter in an early January shooting death in Columbia.

19-year-old Stone Midgyett entered the plea Monday in the death of 19-year-old Deante Smith of Columbia during a street fight.

Smith died Jan. 4 of a gunshot wound to the back of the head. Another man was wounded.

Police said in January Midgyett claimed Smith started shooting at him and he shot about 14 rounds back at Smith.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports witnesses told police Smith did not have a gun.

Midgyett was jailed in January on a $500,000 bond.

On January 15, police said they arrested a 23-year-old Devin Jackson after he turned himself in in connection to the shooting. Jackson was injured during the shooting.
