Tebbetts community supports family who lost home in fire
TEBBETTS - Residents held a benefit dinner for one mid-Missouri family who is trying to piece their life back together after a tragic house fire tore it apart in July.
Organizers said the fire resulted from a welding project and was an accident. The Eikermann family wasn't home at the time, but lost nearly all their belongings to the flames.
"It's an effort to help them get restarted. Anytime there's a fire, everything's lost, they're trying to find a place to live, clothes, everything," family friend Sam Richards said.
Richards said living in a small town can have its perks in a time of need.
"There's a good community feeling, and that all comes into play even now," he said.
Richards said they were expecting about 200 people at the dinner. Organizers were asking for a $10 donation per person.
