The Band Marches On
J.B. Anderson was a band member 50 years ago. Today he is the alumni band's drum major. He said things haven't changed much because all the same songs are still played including the Missouri Waltz.
"I'd be the oldest one here today," he said.
His age does not stop him from what he loves to do.
"It's fun. You get out there in front of a crowd, do your thing and be able to show together in three hours and really work hard is just unbelievable," Anderson said.
Anderson said music is what makes him tick.
"It is the camaraderie of the band and the folks coming back," he said. "You see them and just the whole idea of carrying on the tradition."
Anderson said he isn't modest.
"I should be able to lean back a little ways, should be able to strut my stuff. Hopefully I don't fall over backwards or step in a hole or whatever," he joked.
Anderson has attended every homecoming since 1957.
