Three Die at Lake During Labor Day Weekend
OSAGE BEACH - The Missouri State Water Patrol says deaths at the lake this Labor Day Weekend were up.
Officials say three people died between Friday and Sunday, up from none the same weekend last year.
Two people died due to drowning and another was killed in a boating accident.
"We consider a bad weekend any weekend we have fatalities," said Missouri State Water Patrol Captain Matt Walz.
Boating while intoxicated arrests were also up this year from 14 to 20.
"One thing people have to keep in mind when they are around the water is you have that added danger of the water and something tragic, like a drowning can happen in a split second," Walz said.
Walz also said while BWIs were up this weekend, they are down for the entire summer.
