COLUMBIA - An accident at the intersection of Scott Boulevard and Chapel Hill Road injured three people Wednesday morning.

Columbia police said the accident happened around 8:15 a.m. when a southbound car turned in front of two cars heading north. Both of the northbound cars hit the white car as it was turning onto Chapel Hill Road. The airbags in two of the cars were deployed.

Columbia firefighters and police officers shut down the intersection for about a half hour while they cleaned up the debris from the accident.

The driver and passenger from one of the cars were both taken to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown, one complained of knee pain. Both were conscious and alert when taken by ambulance to University Hospital.

A child from one of the other cars was taken to the hospital just as a precaution.
