Tigers Earn First Big 12 Win
AMES, IA -- The University of Missouri women's tennis team earned its first Big 12 Conference win of the season as the squad recorded a 6-2 victory over Iowa State Friday afternoon. The win improved Mizzou's record to 9-8 overall and 1-4 in Big 12 action, while the Cyclones fell to 3-15 and 1-0.
The Tigers picked up the doubles point by taking two of the three matches. The senior team of Jamie Mera and Nina Pantic posted an 8-1 win over Maria Fernando Macedo and Tessa Lang at No. 1 doubles, while juniors Maria Christensen and Annemijn Koenen ousted Ksenia Pronina and Meghan Cassens, 8-3, at No. 3. Iowa State claimed the No. 2 doubles match as Simona Cacciuttolo and Marie-Christine Chartier defeated sophomore Rachel Stuhlmann and freshman Alex Clark, 8-5.
Pantic got things rolling in singles action as she posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Maria Fernanda Macedo at No. 1 singles. Clark also picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Jenna Langhorst at No. 5, followed by a 6-2, 6-3 decision by Mera over Cassens in No. 4 action.
Stuhlmann put Mizzou on top 5-0 after a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Pronina at No. 2 and Koenen came back after dropping the first set to claim a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (7) win in No. 6 action.
At No. 3 singles, Christensen fell to Cacciuttolo, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (9).
The Tigers return home next Friday as the team hosts Kansas at 5 p.m.
