Tigers Wrestling Sweeps Buffalo at Annual Beauty & the Beast Event
COLUMBIA - The ninth-ranked Missouri Tigers wrestling team shutout the Buffalo Bulls 41-0 Friday night. Mizzou won all ten bouts for the third time this season.
The Tigers claimed their seventh victory in front of over 3,000 fans at the annual Beauty & the Beast event, at which the Mizzou gymnastics team was competing on the adjacent floor. The gymnastics team was also victorious against the Southeast Missouri Redhawks.
No. 1 ranked Drake Houdashelt delivered the Tigers' first decision over Buffalo, defeating freshman Ryan Todora 18-5 at 149 pounds. This is Houdashelt's seventeenth consecutive victory.
No. 19 freshman Lavion Mayes (141), freshmen Barlow McGhee (125), Matt Manley (133), and sophomore Cody Johnston (184) also added decisions for the Tigers.
The Tigers are back in action Saturday, Feb. 8 when they take on MAC conference rival Eastern Michigan. This will be the second time ever the Tigers and the Eagles meet. Tigers hold the all-time advantage 2-0 over the Eagles.
"In these quick turnarounds like we have this weekend, it's all about your mindset. Your mindset has to be ‘We won, but now we have to do it again tomorrow'," said head coach Brian Smith. "Eastern Michigan is a good team with some guys highly ranked in the conference. It's quick turnarounds like this that prepare you for conference tournaments and the NCAA's."
The wrestling meet begins at 1:00 pm at the Hearnes Center.
