Tooth is key evidence in physical disturbance with gun
COLUMBIA - Two suspects of Columbia were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of physical disturbance to a 38-year-old woman, while the victim's tooth was found in one of the suspects' pocket.
The Columbia Police Department said Thursday Quenten Hurt and Tara Shaw struck a female victim in the 200 block of Third Avenue Wednesday afternoon.
According to CPD, the victim said Hurt struck her in the back of the head with his fist. Then Hurt threw her down on the ground and kicked her in the face multiple times, knocking out several of her teeth. The victim said Shaw grabbed a handgun as Hurt told and pointed the gun in her face. Officers later found the victim's tooth in Shaw's pants pocket after she was arrested.
Officers arrested Hurt for armed criminal action, second degree assault, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia for having digital scales in the residence. Shaw was arrested for first degree robbery, third degree assault, unlawful use of weapons felony, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
