Traffic Stop Nets Three Arrests
COLUMBIA - Three Columbia young adults were arrested Thursday at noon in the McDonald's parking lot on 205 E. Business Loop 70.
During the stop one of the passengers got out of the car and threw a marijuana blunt underneath the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, the officer found a loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic hand gun in the center console. During the investigation officers learned there may be a grenade type device inside the vehicle. All three occupants were taken into custody and the vehicle was towed from the scene to a safer location.
A search warrant was obtained for the vehicle. After performing a search of the car no device was found. The Columbia Fire Department as well as members of the Bomb Squad were on hand in the event a device was located.
Both adult passengers, Lamont W. Boone, 18, of Columbia, and Raney S. Beckner, 17, of Columbia, were arrested for possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana and released on a summons. The sixteen year old juvenile driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a weapon. No one was injured during the incident.
