Tragic Accidents Across State
A tragic accident near St. Louis leaves a former Mizzou football player dead Wednesday.
Last season, Daniel Schatz, former Sullivan High School quarterback, walked on to the MU football team, adding depth to the position of quarterback. After practicing with the Tigers this past Spring, he left the team.
Schatz was driving his pickup when it crashed into a semi-truck. Two school buses carrying high school band students to Six Flags also crashed into the back of Schatz's pickup.
A semi-truck slowed down in a construction zone, which lead to the crash in which one of the school buses ended up on top of the semi-truck, with Schatz's truck wedged underneath.
Another devastating crash Wednesday involved an Amtrak train. At 8:30 AM on August 5, the train slammed into a truck, cutting it in half and ejecting the driver.
Authorities say the driver of the truck, who was sent to the hospital with serious injuries, thought he could beat the train but did not. Just minutes after the train was cleared to leave the scene, it hit another vehicle near Warrensburg. That injury was less serious and no injuries were reported.
