Trial date set for man accused in 2011 murder
HOWARD COUNTY - Zach Jefferson, 34, of Excello, appeared in court Wednesday, after being charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Charges had been filed against Jefferson in relation to the murder of Jon Spurling. Spurling's parents found him dead in his home back in 2011. Investigators said they found Spurling with two gunshot wounds. He was shot once in the head and once in the torso.
After further investigating, court documents hint that a love triangle may have been the reason for the murder.
Jefferson was married to Spurling's ex-wife. Court documents say Jefferson may have been jealous that his wife still had feelings for Spurling.
The jury trial is scheduled for January 15, 2016.
