Trial for Columbia councilman scheduled for late October
COLUMBIA - The trial for Columbia Fourth Ward councilman Ian Thomas is scheduled for October 24, with a pre-trial conference set for a week prior.
Prosecutors charged Thomas in early September with attempting to commit an act prohibited by an elected official, a misdemeanor. Thomas is accused of offering a favorable vote to a developer in exchange for a donation to the city.
Thomas admitted in a newsletter he made an error in judgement, but doesn't believe his actions constitute a crime. He said when he learned his actions may be illegal, he canceled the proposal and self-reported to the Missouri Ethics Commission.
