Two Columbia Hospitals Laying Off Employees
COLUMBIA - Two hospitals in Columbia announced they are going to be laying off employees.
University of Missouri Health Care said it will lay off or cut the hours and pay for 35 employees and eliminate 90 unfilled jobs in the coming year.
MU Health Care spokeswoman Mary Jenkins said the cuts will impact 35 jobs. 29 employees will take lowered pay, and six people will loose their jobs completely. Boone Hospital will eliminate the equivalent of 26 full-time positions.
Jenkins said the cuts are caused from flat patient volumes and reductions in overall reimbursement from patients.
