Two men arrested after chase through four mid-Missouri cities
CALLAWAY COUNTY- Two men were arrested Sunday night after they crashed their car off I-70 following a police chase through Jefferson City, Holts Summit, Fulton and Kingdom City.
22-year-old Joseph Paul, of Jefferson City and 18-year-old Antonio Green, of St. Louis, were driving in a vehicle near Breaktime on Clark Avenue in Jefferson City about 8:20 p.m., when an officer attempted a traffic stop for loud music, according to police. Captain Doug Shoemaker with the Jefferson City Police Department said Paul, who was driving, refused to stop, drove onto Highway 50 and continued onto Highway 54 toward Holts Summit.
Shoemaker said Jefferson City Police terminated the pursuit because of high speeds. By that time, The Callaway County Sheriff's Department said it joined the pursuit.
Authorities said Paul drove the vehicle across the Highway 54 median and continued west in the eastbound lanes. The Callaway County Sheriff's Department said a deputy stopped westbound traffic near State Road HH.
Deputies said Paul crossed back into the eastbound lanes and continued into Kingdom City. Authorities said attempts to stop the vehicle using tire spikes were unsuccessful.
Paul then drove east on I-70 and attempted to drive on a south outer road when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed.
Paul was arrested for felony resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute. He was being held in the Callaway County Jail Monday on $20,000.00 cash only bond.
Green was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute. He was being held in the Callaway County Jail Monday on $4,500.00 bond.
Deputies said after the pursuit they located a handgun and what they believed was heroin in the vehicle.
Authorities said Paul and Green were seen by medics after the crash but refused treatment.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol and Holts Summit Police Department were also involved in the pursuit.
The Jefferson City Police Department said it discovered Paul had multiple arrest warrants out of Ferguson at the time of his arrest.
