Two More Sentenced in Mo. Illegal Identity Scheme
ST. JOSEPH - Two more people have been sentenced for their roles in a scheme to provide fraudulent identities to undocumented workers.
Prosecutors say the conspiracy using the license office in St. Joseph provided more than 3,500 fake identity papers to people across the country. The scheme garnered more than $5 million.
Prosecutors say 46-year-old Sherri E. Gutierrez, of St. Joseph, and 33-year-old Brenda De La Cruz, of San Antonio, Texas, were sentenced Wednesday. Gutierrez got five years in prison without parole and De La Cruz was sentenced to four years without parole.
Three other people were sentenced in the scheme Tuesday including Gutierrez's daughter, 27-year-old Shayna R. Vanvacter, of St. Joseph, who was sentenced to two years.
Sixteen defendants have been sentenced and two more defendants are awaiting sentencing in the scheme.
