COLUMBIA - U_News @ 4 #UonTV begins September 12th at 4pm on KOMU8. It's an interactive conversation about YOU and today's news. If our test drive of this new hybrid newscast garnered international headlines, you can only imagine the innovation that awaits you Sept 12 when the program fully launches.

U_News provides a new digital forum for U to personally share your news, opinions, kudos and community events. Our viewers will essentially co-host this newscast. We are advising all community volunteers to sign up now for "U-Care", a new digital pipeline between your office or home and KOMU. All you need is a webcam and a free Google Plus account to share your message with U_News. How? Email Sarah Hill (sarahhill@komu.com) to get your U-Care connection enabled. It's free and simple to set up. Even if you aren't a community volunteer, KOMU wants to be able to put you on the air in breaking news or weather situations, so please email us now to get signed up.

U-News is your opportunity to get in on the ground floor of an innovative endeavor that's already getting international headlines. Media Bistro, PBS Media Shift, Mashable, Lost Remote, the Innovation page of the Washington Post and more are all writing about what U_News is doing to share important information with U in a different way.

U_News at 4pm is news with a capital "N", weather and sports but with a twist. U_News viewers will not only get their news one hour earlier, they will have unprecedented access to our airwaves as we'll display their photos, videos, texts, tweets and Facebook posts.
Do you have to be high tech to contribute to our conversation? Nope...we'll take your comments on a paper napkin.

In July, KOMU 8 became the first television station in the world to interact with viewers during the news in a 10 person video chat room called "Google Plus Hangout". U news will build upon that viewer interaction by being the first local television station in the world to allow viewers to cyber co-host its newscast via Google Plus Hangout.

Another first: U_News will become the first television station in mid-MO to use local music in our newscasts. We've invited local artists to be a part of a new endeavor called U_Tunes. It's a music mix where Mid-Missouri Artists submit their music to us and we share it with the public on our 4pm newscast. Local bands interested in getting on the U_Tunes list may email Utunes.komu@gmail.com

Don't forget to send us your "U" sign, as we'll be using these U-themed photos and videos a lot on the air. We've created a special place on our website just for "U". Upload photos/videos you want on the news here. www.komu.com/U_News

Your voice. Your News. Your music. Your Community... now an hour earlier at 4 o'clock. #UonTV starts Sept. 12th.

We want U to contribute to the U_News conversation. So don't wait....send us your "U"
