A student taking a typical 15 credits per semester would pay another $324 for educational fees, if the Board of Curators approves President Elson Floyd's request,.
"This increase allows for expenses that will continue to increase whether or not we receive more money from the state," said UM spokesman Joe Moore. "So, we have costs like benefits, health costs for employees, that will simply have to be met one way or another either through increased student fees or through new state appropriations."
The Board of Curators will discuss the proposed tuition hike at its meeting later this week.
