UPDATE: Columbia man charged after hostage situation
COOPER COUNTY — A man has been charged in relation to a hostage standoff east of Boonville Friday morning.
According to the Cooper County Sheriff's Office, 31-year-old Tremaine Terelle Vaughns of Columbia was charged with first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, felonious restraint and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.
His bond is set at $250,000. Vaughns is still in the custody of the Cooper County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's deputies were sent to house in Cooper County after they got a call at around 7 a.m. on Friday about a possible hostage situation involving a firearm.
SWAT officers were called to the scene shortly after and were able to get both the victim and suspect out of the house.
The Cooper County Sheriff's Department said the victim is a 26-year-old white female from Boone County.
The suspect was taken into custody after the incident, and the victim was referred for medical treatment.
No gunfire occurred during the incident.
