UPDATE: Fire Leaves 30 Residents Homeless
JEFFERSON CITY - Early Saturday morning residents of Mulberry Apartments woke up to screams and cries for help as their apartment burned. Residents say the fire appeared out of nowhere and gave them little time to save their possessions. The apartment building didn't have an emergency exit or fire extinguishers leaving residents defenseless against the flames.
The cause of the fire is unknown but is under investigation with the Jefferson City Fire Department. The residents who lost their homes in the fire are receiving assistance from the Red Cross, who gave them vouchers to stay at a local hotel. Residents believe they will be able to return back to their homes on Monday.
