UPDATE: Man charged with killing police officer now in custody
HENRY COUNTY - UPDATE: Ian McCarthy is now in custody according to KOMU sister station KSHB.
Gov. Eric Greitens released a statement regarding the arrest.
"We are all grateful for and proud of the law enforcement officers who conducted this operation. Justice will be done.
Our hearts still hang heavy this evening. Officer Michaels’ family and his department still grieve, and the entire state of Missouri joins them in their grief. Sheena and I will pray tonight for all who knew Officer Michaels and for the memory of his life and service. Tonight, we will remember the words of Isaiah, 'Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death.'"
Earlier Tuesday there was a search of a Chilhowee residence in connection to the fatal shooting of a Clinton police officer.
Officials were following up on leads that said the suspect who they believe shot and killed a Clinton police officer Sunday night could be in Chilhowee.
KSHB reported a heavy police presence in the area, about 25 miles north of Clinton.
Officials said they received a tip that 39-year-old Ian McCarthy may be in the area.
He has been charged with first-degree murder and felony armed criminal action in the death of Officer Gary Michael.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said officials had been in the area since around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
McCarthy was treated at a nearby hospital for a gunshot wound he had suffered, but then was taken to jail Wednesday morning.
