UPDATE: No Danger Found at Smithton, Mo. High School
SMITHTON - Smithon R-VI superintendent Diedrick Kahrs said Friday the device removed from Smithon High School was not explosive.
The Pettis County Sheriff's Department said the school was on lock down from around 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday.
Sheriff Kevin Bond requested response from the MSHP Bomb Squad, which responded from the scene from Jeff City. Upon inspection, the device was found to be an inert antique artillery shell. No studeents were in any danger at any time during this incident.
Law enforcement was also assisted by the Smithton Fire and APSI Ambulance at the scene.
Kahrs said the school practices lockdowns like this from time to time, and he was very pleased with how students and staff cooperated.
