UPDATE: One dead in north Columbia shooting
COLUMBIA - A 40-year-old man was shot and killed in a north Columbia neighborhood Wednesday night.
David Lee Morgan was found dead at the scene, police confirmed Thursday.
It happened around 8:30 p.m. off Tupelo Place near Rangeline.
Otha Williams who lives on Tupelo Place said he heard five or six shots shortly after fireworks went off. He said people who don't live in the neighborhood come to hang out. Williams says these people set off fireworks for the last three days.
He said he doesn't feel safe there and is going to move out as soon as possible.
Roland Nabhan, a landlord of two apartment complexes at Tupelo Place, said his tenants called him last night, as they are concerned about living in the neighborhood.
He also said strangers come to gather on the street and drink until 4 in the morning.
Police said the initial emergency call reported a "large disturbance," and a second call came in just minutes later.
Jeff Pitts, spokesman for the Columbia Police Department, said people living in the area should lock their doors and be careful because no suspect has been found.
Pitts said anyone with information about the shooting can contact the CPD at 573.874.7652 or CrimeStoppers at 573.875.TIPS to remain anonymous.
Two men were hospitalized with gunshot wounds from the 1500 block of Tupelo Place last year. A crowd of individuals were occupying a parking lot there.
