UPDATE: One student dead, several injured in suburban Denver school shooting
HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (AP) — One student is dead and several others have been injured in a shooting in Douglas County, Colorado, according to authorities and KUSA in Denver.
The shooting occurred at STEM School Highlands Ranch, a public charter school with more than 1,850 students in kindergarten through 12th grade. All victims are aged 15 or older. The original report stated eight people were injured.
Two people are in custody. The shooters are believed to be students at the school; one is an adult male and the other is a juvenile male.
Three victims have been released from the hospital while two remain in critical condition.
The sheriff's office said deputies responded around 1:50 p.m. to the school in the Highlands Ranch community about 15 miles (24 kilometers) south of Denver.
