Update: police identify man arrested for pulling knife on officers
COLUMBIA - Police identified the man who allegedly pulled a knife on officers at a Break Time convenience store Thursday night as 64-year-old Eddie Crawley.
According to police, Crawley was arrested Monday night after his release following a medical evaluation.
Police officers responded to the Break Time on Nebraska Avenue on Thursday because of reports Crawley was yelling at customers and quickly became belligerent.
After Crawley reportedly ignored orders to drop the knife, and yelled about not going to jail, one officer used a Taser on him. Police said it didn't work because of Crawley's loose-fitting jacket.
Officers then used pepper spray on him. At that point, Crawley apparently ran across Providence Road and into the Joe Machens Nissan parking lot, where police said he continually swung at officers with the knife.
Police used a Taser once again, this time successfully, and took Crawley into custody.
Crawley was booked into the Boone County jail on suspicion of assault, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and resisting arrest.
