UPDATE: Police identify victim in Monday homicide, reward offered
JEFFERSON CITY - Police identified the victim in Monday's deadly shooting as 19-year-old Nilez R. Nichols.
Jefferson City Communications received several calls about a shooting in the 1900 block of Stadium Blvd, where officers found Nichols dead.
Witnesses described three men fleeing the scene after shots were fired. Patrol officers searched the area to locate the 3 suspects but didn't find them.
"The only thing we know for certain is they left the scene immediately after the report of the shots being fired," Lieutenant David Williams said. "As a result, there was someone found deceased at the scene. We want to interview them and determine whether or not they could have just been in the area or if in fact they are responsible for the injuries that resulted in this young man's death."
On Wednesday, the Jefferson City Area CrimeStoppers posted on its Facebook page that a $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect(s) involved in the homicide.
The post asks anyone with any information to call Jefferson City Police at 573-634-6400 or CrimeStoppers directly at 573-659-TIPS (8177).
