UPDATE: Suspect in Custody in Sturgeon Stabbing
STURGEON - Police in Sturgeon took 25-year-old Matthew Bruce into custody for a stabbing that occurred around 6:00 p.m. Friday night.
Police searched a house in the area and stopped a car which they searched as well, before letting the driver go.
Sturgeon Police Chief Patricia Bible said Bruce turned himself in to the Boone County Sheriff Department. Bible would not release the name of that suspect or of the victim. Bible did confirm that the victim left the scene in an ambulance and was transported to University Hospital. The victim was treated for non life-threatening injuries and released Friday night.
Bible said she believes Bruce and the victim were aquaintances, but authorities have not found a motive in the stabbing.
Bruce faces charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Assault in the Second Degree. He posted a $9,000 bond and was released Saturday morning.
KOMU-TV talked to Bruce's mother. She claimed her son was only acting in self-defense against the victim.
Bible said she would not give any details on a motive right now.
"I am looking into every issue to make sure that if more charges need to come forth, that those charges do come forth."
