UPDATE: Suspect in Custody in VA Hospital Homicide Investigation

COLUMBIA - Columbia Police officials arrested a suspect Saturday in their ongoing investigation into a homicide at a local VA hospital.

Officials said the homicide occurred overnight Friday at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia. The suspect in custody allegedly violently assualted another patient, leading to his death.

Truman VA Public Relations Officer Stephen Gaither told KOMU 8 News the Office of the Investiagator General turned the homicide investigation over to the Columbia Police Department Criminal Investigations Division around 2:30 PM on Saturday. Further information about the suspect and his status is said to be released at a later time.

Gaither said it may not be until Sunday or Monday.
