CALLAWAY COUNTY - A Fulton man is in custody Saturday morning following hours of police pursuit that began Friday.
Callaway County Sheriff's deputies were investigating Raymond Ryan, 37, in a child sexual assault case.
Just before 4:00 p.m. Friday, Callaway County Sheriff's patrol deputies found Ryan driving east in Fulton. Deputies attempted to stop Ryan, but he refused and sped off.
Ryan had four children in the car. During the pursuit, Ryan briefly stopped and let out a child. The child was taken into protective custody by deputies and is safe.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol got involved, bringing in a helicopter for help. Deputies continued to pursue Ryan, who entered Montgomery and Gasconade counties.
It stopped for a short time in Hermann, when deputies lost sight of Ryan and terminated the pursuit.
A short time later, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol found Ryan again, beginning another chase that led to St. Louis County.
The helicopter was able to observe Ryan park the vehicle and run into a heavily wooded area.
MSHP and assisting deputies located three other kids, who had remained in the vehicle with Ryan until he left the vehicle.
After an extensive search with aerial, K9 and law enforcement personnel, authorities hadn't found Ryan.
A Callaway County felony warrant without bond had been issued for Ryan's arrest on suspicion of felony resisting arrest and four counts of felony endangering the welfare of a child, among others.
The Callaway County Sheriff's Office was notified Saturday morning that Raymond Ryan was taken into custody in St. Louis. No further details are available at this time.
The investigation is ongoing and further charges could be added.
