Valentine's Day Sales Expected to Rise
COLUMBIA - Mid-Missouri businesses expected to see a boost in Valentine's Day sales Tuesday.
A recent survey released by the National Retail Federation reported an expected 8.5 percent increase in Valentine's Day spending by the average American. Last year, Americans spent about $116. This year they're expected to spend $126, with men spending an average $80 more than women.
Columbia's My Secret Garden flower shop reported an increase in spending this year. Owner Ruth LaHue said customers purchased larger, more expensive arrangements rather than more arrangements.
Several local restaurants including Sycamore and Bleu said they're completely booked for Valentines night. Others including Sophia's and CC's City Broiler don't take reservations, but both said they expect waits.
