Victim Injured in Armed Robbery Attempt
JEFFERSON CITY - The Jefferson City Police Department responded to an armed robbery attempt in the 1000 block of Elizabeth Street at approximately 8:13 p.m. Saturday. According to a press release from the police department, the victim was a 51-year-old Columbia resident. He told officers he was meeting a woman he knew near Elizabeth Street.
The police department said a male suspect had approached him and sat down in the passenger seat of his car. The victim told the police department the suspect pulled out a black and silver handgun and told him to hand over the car keys.
The press release cites the suspect is a black male with dreadlocks. The victim said he was wearing a plain blue shirt and blue jeans. The sheriff's department said the victim and the suspect struggled over the gun. The victim was able to get out of the car and escaped on foot. The suspect had left the area when officers arrived.
The police department said the victim received facial injuries during the struggle but had no life-threatening injuries. The press release also said the suspect did not "get anything of value from the victim." This investigation is ongoing.
