Vonderrit Myers' family to release autopsy
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Relatives of Vonderrit Myers Jr., the 18-year-old killed by a St. Louis police officer on Oct. 8, will release results of an independent autopsy.
KTVI-TV reports that the family plans to release the results Thursday afternoon. Pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht performed the autopsy.
The officer was off-duty working in security for a neighborhood when his suspicion was aroused because Myers ran after seeing him. The officer gave chase and the two scuffled. Police say Myers pulled a gun and shot at the officer, who returned fire, killing Myers. The family has said they believe Myers was unarmed.
The shooting of the black teenager by a white officer drew comparisons to the shooting of Michael Brown by a Ferguson officer in August. Like Brown's death, it spurred several demonstrations.
