Watching the World Series Trophy
U.S. Cellular and the Cardinals are taking the 2006 championship trophy on a three-state tour to the company's stores in Missouri, Illinois and Oklahoma.
Verna Cooper, of the baseball team's marketing department, said Fulton fans really turned out Thursday to see the trophy, even taking field trips from school.
"There were so many students coming through, I think if you go to school in Fulton you had to have seen the trophy," she said.
Of course, the 30-pound Sterling silver, gold-covered trophy gets lots of tender loving care.
"There's a point where you're sliding it in and you actually want to have a better grip on it," said Cooper. "So I slide it in with my hands so that there isn't any body oil resting on it."
The Cardinals marketing team will be on the road with the trophy through mid-March. The next stops are in Jefferson City on Friday and in Columbia this Saturday.
