Water Tower Continues to Cause Problems for Residents
MILLERSBURG - A water tower that sits on Route J in Callaway County is causing problems for some local residents.
Some residents of the Saratoga subdivision say the water tower has been a continuious headache.
The tower was completed in 2007 and this past summer Public Water District 9 put up a fence. Both were against residents wishes.
Justin Collins' property backs up to the fence. He says dogs can get under the fence and owners can not go in after them. If they do, they could be cited for trespassing. The water district also owns the treeline that wraps around part of the fence.
Collins and the district's property lines practically overlap each other. Collins says while his property is neatly kept the overgrown brush nearby belongs to the district. Also, lightning struck a tree a few months ago and Collins says it's now dead. He says he's called to have it removed but the district has yet to come out.
Unlike Boone County, Callaway County does not have a Zoning and Planning Commisssion.
Roger Ballew, Manager of Public Water District 9 says, "In Boone County, if you were planning to build a water tower near residents, you would have to send out a notice. In Callaway County, you don't because there is not a commision."
Collins says," I wish they were a little more considerate about how we feel."
