COLUMBIA - It's 3pm. Your stomach is growling. You have a meeting at 3:30pm and you would like your co-workers to hear your mouth and not that incessant "grrrrrrrumble" from beneath your shirt. Before you go heading for the vending machine, stop.

Are there options in the vending machine that are viable? Are there options in the vending machine that are NOT chocolate-coated, sugar-filled nor greasy?

Maybe it's time to take a look at some things that can be put together at home. Maybe it's time to turn a desk drawer into your own private snack selection.

Grab your measuring cups, measuring spoons and plastic storage baggies!

Sweet Munch Mix:
• 1/4 C dried cranberries (sweetened) = 93 cal
• 1/4 C raw almonds = 160 cal
• 1 T semi-sweet mini chocolate chip morsels = 70 cal
• Total = 323 cal

Crunch Mix:
• 1 C "O"s (like Cheerios) breakfast cereal = 111 cal
• 3 T lightly salted dry roasted peanuts = 160 cal
• Total = 271 cal

No-Nuts Crazy-Good Mix:
• 1/4 C dried cranberries (sweetened) = 93 cal
• High Fiber (like Fiber One) breakfast cereal = 118 cal
• 1 T semi-sweet mini chocolate chip morsels = 70 cal
• Total = 281 cal

Still need something closer to a candy bar? How about this popular recipe (with a twist)? Put them into snack-sized storage bags and they are ready to go into your snack drawer:

Pilgrim Brownies:
• 1 box family size brownie mix (like Pillsbury) = 2,000 cal
• 1 can pureed pumpkin = 150 cal
• 1 C chocolate chips = 805 cal
• Total = 2955
• Cut into 20 pieces = 148 cal per brownie

Hopefully, you've found that some of these options will work for you. But if you haven't, check the Internet for other ideas. A little prep time can go a long way.
