Westminster christens new field with big win
FULTON - The Westminster College Blue Jays unveiled their new turf football field on Saturday in their game against Iowa Wesleyan.
The field is the first finished part of the $4 million project to completely redo the Blue Jay football facilities.
David Payne, the president of the newly-formed Westminster Booster Club, said the new field is like nothing the campus has ever seen.
"The rumor is we've heard it's one of the safest in the Midwest," he said. "It's absolutely top of the line. It's beautiful. It's functional and more importantly, it's well deserved. This team, this football program has earned it."
Blue Jays starting quarterback Trent White said he loves the new field.
"The turf we have is some of the best turf," he said. "It's like carpet."
The Blue Jays broke in the field with a resounding 35-10 win over Iowa Wesleyan. Payne said it means the world to the school for the 2018 home games to start on such as high note.
"They're going to remember it forever," he said. "There going to remember it forever. It's a great day."
Payne said as sweet as there new field is, he's even more excited for the finished stadium.
"Next year, when the stadium comes in, it's going to be absolutely phenomenal," he said. "This will be the place to be to watch the game."
