Westminster College Begins 9/11 Commemoration
FULTON - Westminster College started its September 11 commemoration with a flag memorial on Friday afternoon. Students from the Westminster College Republicans partnered with some international students to put more than 2,700 American flags in the ground to honor all the lives lost ten years ago. Coordinator Kat Barden said students felt this was a good way to remind others how important it is to remember the events of that day
The commemoration will continue on Saturday with a candlelight vigil organized by the campus' Christian Leadership Council. The council titled the event the "Lighted Labyrinth" and it will take place next to the flag memorial.
Sunday, the memorial will finish with a community commemorative service entitled "A World of Heroes." This service will also recognize local heroes in Fulton including the Fulton First Responders and the Fulton Fire Department. Wesminster College President Barney Forsythe will present a wreath to the firefighters in honor of their service.
