Westminster Softball Still in Contention for Tourney Berth
GREENVILLE, IL -- The Westminster College softball squad split a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with Spalding University Sunday at Greenville College to remain in contention for the fourth and final berth in the conference tournament. The Blue Jays (14-18, 8-8 SLIAC) lost the first game 6-1, but scored in the bottom of the seventh to take the nightcap 1-0.
Westminster got hits from junior Morgan Shipley, sophomore Rai'an Harris and junior Kenna Cornelson in dropping Sunday's opener 6-1. Sophomore Brittany Lee (7-9) took the loss. In the nightcap, sophomore Talisha Washington reached on an error to lead off the home portion of the seventh inning of a scoreless game. Sophomore Lori Jones singled and Lee recorded a hit to drive home Washington with the winning run. Sophomore Sarah Schneider (7-8) got the win, allowing two hits in the complete game shut out.
