White Sox Defeat Royals in Opener
Kansas City scored two runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Shane Costa and when Esteban German was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Alex Cintron answered right back in the second for Chicago, with a two-run homer, extending the lead to 5-2. Emil Brown of the Royals countered in the bottom half with an RBI single to cut the lead to three. The White Sox put the game out of reach in the third with a solo homer by Dye and a two-run homer by former Fatima High School star Joe Crede.
Jose Contreras picked up his 10th win for the White Sox, pitching seven innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and striking out three. Runelvys Hernandez only lasted three innings for the Royals, giving up eight runs on eight hits while walking two.
The White Sox and Royals play game two on Tuesday evening. Odalis Perez takes the hill for Kansas City against Chicago's Mark Buerhle.
