Whiteman AFB Airman involved in shooting incident
WARRENSBURG - A Whiteman Air Force Base Airman is in a Kansas City hospital Saturday after being involved in a shooting incident.
Public Information Officer Matthew J. Van Wagenen said the incident happened in Warrensburg but didn't release any more details about the shooting. He said via email that all possibilities of how the shooting happened are being investigated. The condition of the airman, who was assigned to Whiteman, was not disclosed. Van Wagenen also said, "Out of concern for the Airman, the Airman's privacy, and the privacy of the Airman's family, as well as the pending investigation, only limited information is available at this time."
Brig. Gen. Glen VanHerck, 509th Bomb Wing commander, released a statement saying, "Our thoughts and prayers are with this Airman, the Airman's family, and all others impacted by this event."
Wagenen said local law enforcement officials are investigating and working with officials from Whiteman Air Force Base.
Whiteman is about 75 miles southeast of Kansas City. It is home to the Air Force B-2 bombers, fighter jets and an Army National Guard Aviation Battalion.
