William Woods Student to Compete in Golf Championship
FULTON, MO - Following a second-place finish at the Albuquerque Sectional Qualifying tournament, incoming William Woods University men's golf student-athlete Collin Pratt will compete in the upcoming U.S. Amateur Championship, held August 13-19 at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado. Pratt finished in a three-way tie for second after firing a two-day total of 144, claiming the qualification position in a tiebreaker.
"Collin is a very talented player that hits the ball a long, long way and has had numerous rounds in the mid-60's," said head men's golf coach Barry Doty. "He played in the top five at New Mexico State University as a freshman before transferring to William Woods. After sitting out this past spring, Collin will be a huge addition to our program this fall and he will help us compete for the 2013 NAIA National Championship."
He is the first golfer from WWU to qualify for the tournament.
Pratt was solid as a freshman for the Aggies, helping the team capture the Western Athletic Conference championship and earn a no. 9 seed in the 2011 NCAA Regional Tournament. As a prep, he was a standout as well, earning the 2008 New Mexico State High School Championship for Desert Academy.
The tournament opens with a pair of 18-hole stroke play rounds on Monday and Tuesday, with the field cut to the top 64 scores following the second round. Wednesday opens the match play tournament, with the final round scheduled for Sunday.
Pairings for the opening rounds will be announced at a later date.
