Woman abducted in Missouri escapes in Illinois
CAPE GIRARDEAU (AP) - A woman who was abducted in Cape Girardeau has managed to escape in Effingham, Illinois.
A woman told the FBI and Cape Girardeau police that she was sitting in her car in South County Park Tuesday morning when a man physically forced her into his pickup. She said that the suspect drove for several hours and assaulted her before she was able to escape in Effingham that day.
The FBI says the vehicle likely drove through the St. Louis area on Interstate 55.
The suspect is described by authorities as a white man in his mid- to late 30s with a salt-and-pepper goatee. Authorities say he is approximately 5-foot-10 and heavy set. He was last seen wearing a ball cap, a long-sleeved dirty top and light-colored blue jeans.
The victim also says the suspect is a heavy smoker who may be hard of hearing.
