ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis police said a woman who claimed that she and a 3-year-old girl were injured in a drive-by shooting admitted she lied about the details of what happened.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the woman first told police she and the girl were on the front porch of a home when someone in a black Pontiac Grand Prix shot at them early Monday.

The woman later recanted and said they were actually shot by a man who was playing with a gun inside the home.

The woman was struck in the arm, the child in the armpit. Both were hospitalized in serious condition Monday. The man has been taken into custody, but charges had not been filed Monday.
