Woman charged in fatal crash pleads guilty to misdemeanors
COLUMBIA (AP) — A Columbia woman has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to amended charges in a crash that killed a woman and her 9-year-old son.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports that 31-year-old Sophia Mosby was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges of careless and imprudent driving and driving without a valid license.
She initially was charged with three felonies, including two counts of first-degree involuntary manslaughter. Police said she hit another vehicle in September as it turned left, killing 48-year-old Ping Gui and her son, Jeffrey Jiang.
Police said the 15-year-old who was driving the victims' car with a permit sustained moderate to severe injuries. Authorities said four children in Mosby's car had minor injuries.
A wrongful death suit filed by Gui's husband is pending.
