Woman killed in north St. Louis County by car fleeing police
VELDA CITY (AP) — A 23-year-old woman is dead after she was hit by a car that police say was being chased by officers after an attempted traffic stop in north St. Louis County.
Missouri Highway Patrol Sgt. Al Nothum tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch the woman was struck by a red Chevrolet Monte Carlo with a white hood after Velda City police tried to pull the car over Friday morning for speeding.
The woman's name has not yet been released.
Nothum says the crash occurred after the Chevy ran a red light at the intersection of Natural Bridge and Lucas and Hunt roads.
Police suspect the driver then fled east on Interstate 70. The car was found abandoned in a parking lot near the Edward Jones Dome in downtown St. Louis.
