COLUMBIA - Columbia resident Janet Moreland arrived home at Cooper's Landing Monday evening as she continues her 2,600 mile trip down the Missouri River to the Gulf of Mexico.

Moreland began her journey on April 24 at Bower's Spring, Mont., the farthest source of the Missouri River located on the continental divide.

After bicycling though the Centennial Valley, Moreland began kayaking on May 1 below the Clark Canyon Dam. On May 15, she encountered Three Forks, where the Gallatin, Madison and Jefferson rivers come together to form the Missouri River in Montana.

"My trip thus far has been fantastic, just couldn't be a better experience for me just being out in the natural environment, being on the river, camping out in the wilderness and meeting awesome people all along the way," she said.

Moreland documents her travels hourly on her Facebook page and her website www.loveyourbigmuddy.com.

Moreland said she is looking forward to the rest of her experience on the Mississippi.

"The Mississippi is new to me and it's a little bit intimidating and so the discovery and exploration is what I look forward to most," she said.

Moreland's trip is funded by her savings and donations of people following her journey online.
