Woman Who Burned Her Baby Enters a Plea
IBERIA (AP) — A central Missouri woman has entered an Alford plea in the death of her 7-month-old son, who suffered severe burns when his blanket was set on fire.
Christina L. White entered the plea Thursday to second-degree murder, first-degree arson and endangering the welfare of a child. An Alford plea means the defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges prosecutors have enough evidence to win a conviction.
White had previously pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and the other two charges.
Prosecutors say White set fire to a blanket wrapped around her son, Wayne Anderson Jr., in July 11, 2007, at a home in Iberia. The boy died 20 days later.
A source reports that White told police she set the fire because of extreme stress.
